Launch of the Secure Innovation Security Review Scheme

Edinburgh Napier University supports the launch of the Secure Innovation Security Review Scheme, a new initiative from His Majesty’s Government (HMG) designed to help early-stage tech organisations strengthen their security posture.

To help organisations stay secure, the UK Government is part-funding security reviews for up to 500 early-stage tech companies. These reviews will be delivered by approved Security Reviewers, offering expert guidance to protect Intellectual Property (IP), competitive advantage, and reputation from state threat actors and state-backed competitors.

Developed by the National Protective Security Authority (NPSA) and the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), the scheme is part of the wider Secure Innovation campaign. It positions security not just as a protective measure, but as a strategic enabler—boosting investor and customer confidence.

In partnership with Innovate UK, the Department for Business and Trade (DBT), and the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), the scheme offers a £2,500 security review for just £500, with the remaining cost covered by an HMG fund.

The review covers:

  • Protective security governance
  • Risk and incident management
  • Security culture
  • Cyber security
  • Supply chain and partnership risks

A pilot of the scheme showed strong results:

  • 98% of participants felt more confident identifying security threats
  • 89% agreed the £500 contribution was good value for money

The message is clear: don’t wait to protect your innovation.
