Listening Chair Research: A Public Engagement Event for Care Home Stakeholders

date and time icon 19 Nov 2024 10:00 AM  to  1:00 PM Location of Event COSLA, EH12 5BH

The purpose of this event is to share findings from the ‘Listening Chair' research about care home staff retention and wellbeing at work.

Attendees will be invited to offer your feedback and perspectives about the research and consider its application to care home practice. During the morning you will have an opportunity to engage and discuss the research and its implications with researchers and stakeholders from across the care home sector.

This event will take the form of an interactive workshop involving a range of feedback activities, including the creation of a digital animation. Our aim is that the digital animation, and a report of the public engagement event can be used as education and awareness raising resources for care homes and the sector more widely.

What is the 'Listening Chair' research?

This qualitative research study (2023-24) investigated supports for wellbeing and retention of care jome staff post the covid pandemic. Using an appreciative inquiry approach, the research involved ten care homes, and 126 frontline multidisciplinary staff participated. Photovoice was used to gather interviews and focus group data. Following reflexive thematic analysis, nine practice development opportunities were identified to further support care home staff wellbeing and retention, these included for example, ensuring clarity within and between teams, and staff support when a resident dies. Currently, co-produced quality improvement activity is underway in five participating care homes, utilising the practice development opportunities identified in the research findings.

Who should attend?

This event will be of interest to care home staff and managers, health and social care partnership teams supporting care homes, those involved in care home research, education and practice development.
